Our Expertise & Process Makes The Difference
We have several specialized tools that measure each piece of your equipment to get to the root of the issue. We want to know exactly what isn’t working and why. Many HVAC service techs start swapping out parts without diagnosing the Why, so their solution may just be a band-aid. We don’t take the guessing game approach. Our diagnostic process is thoughtful, deliberate and, in the end, saves you time and money.
Owner and HVAC Technician Daniel Reed has over 14 years of experience. He doesn’t work on commission, so every decision and recommendation is based on his expertise, evidence, and your best interest.
Repairs
For repair and warranty work, our goal is to get you back up and running within one to two hours.
We can work with every major manufacturer’s warranty. If it’s a generic part, we carry those on our van at all times. Some warranty work requires that we use OEM parts (Original Equipment Manufacturer), but these are typically easy to acquire and shouldn’t slow down your repair.

Mini Splits
Fun Fact: Mini splits are used all over the world – it’s the most popular choice for climate control. The U.S. is one of the only places that uses central heating and cooling. Here’s why mini splits are such a popular choice.
- They’re all electric, which is especially great if you have a solar system.
- They allow you to control the temperature in each room, rather than heating and cooling the entire house regardless of where you spend most of your time.
- They’re very low maintenance. They don’t require yearly maintenance like centralized heating and air conditioning, plus they also don’t require filters.
- They are very customizable and quiet, which makes them a great option for bedrooms.
- They can be up to 40% more efficient than a conventional HVAC system.
- Since there are wall, ceiling, and floor mounted options, they fit in almost any space (garage, casitas, home additions, rarely used rooms, “she sheds”, etc.).
We are one of the few HVAC companies in Tucson that offers mini split installations and maintenance plans. If you’d like to learn more, call us at (520) 498-2432 to set up a free consultation and to see a real mini split display.

Duct Work
Did you know… if you routinely change your air filters, you should not have to have your ducts cleaned. Ducts typically need to be cleaned only if you’ve had a lot of construction (remodeling dust); pests have nested in the duct; or there hasn’t been consistent maintenance and filter changes.
There are two main types of ductwork: Rigid and Flex. In Southern Arizona, we see a lot of rigid ducts for swamp coolers, and flex ducts for conventional HVAC. If you switch from swamp to AC, you need to make sure you have the ducts to support that change. If you don’t have proper ductwork, you’ll get hot and cold spots all over your house. Your AC unit won’t be powerful enough to circulate the air properly with rigid ducts.
Rigid ducts are susceptible to rust from the moisture of the swamp cooler. Whenever we service your swamp cooler, we’ll check the vents to see if we can find any signs of corrosion.
Flex ducts last 10 to 25 years, so depending on when your house was built, you may wish to have us evaluate the condition of your duct work.

Air Balancing
Air balancing is basically making sure every room in the house receives the right amount of conditioned air, hot or cold. The way the vents in your house are adjusted – how open they are and where they’re pointing – is relative to the air flow each room actually needs. You don’t need vents wide open in a north facing room, but you do want maximum airflow in a west facing room. Sometimes hot and cold spots in a house can be adjusted simply by correctly positioning your vents.
If you have hot or cold spots that are troubling you, call us at (520) 498-2432 or fill out this form Get In Touch.
Indoor Air Quality
On average, Americans spend 90% of their time indoors, especially the elderly, children, and people with chronic health conditions. Concentrations of pollutants are often 2x to 5x higher indoors. Following are the most common indoor pollutants, what you can do to improve your air quality, and additional EPA resources.
Carbon monoxide
- Carbon monoxide is created by gas or wood burning fireplaces, furnaces, and stoves.
Tobacco smoke
- Keep in mind: If you live in an older home or residential building, everything is sealed tightly to help with energy efficiency. But, this also means little to no air flow / air exchange.
Radon
- When radioactive elements that naturally occur in rock break down over time, they release radon that can seep into your home.
Pet Dander
- Some of the most congested HVAC units we’ve seen have been clogged by pet hair, usually from multiple pets.
Mold
- Regular mold exposure is linked to many health issues. If you ever had water damage that wasn’t professionally remediated, you may wish to have your home inspected for mold.
Lead and Asbestos
- Asbestos was banned in 1977, and lead-based paints were banned in 1978. If you own a home built in those years or prior, it would be a good idea to get a home inspection. The more you know about the materials used to build your home, the more you can improve its air quality.
Ozone
- There are good and bad forms of ozone. The good occurs naturally in the upper atmosphere. The bad occurs closer to ground level, and it’s the primary component of smog. It’s the combination of VOCs, exhausts, and manmade chemicals reacting with sunlight. People with asthma are most affected by ozone pollution.
VOCs
- Volatile Organic Compounds are released from pesticides, paint, furniture, fabrics, cleaning products.
What can you do to improve air quality?
- When the weather is nice, routinely open doors and windows to air out the house.
- When the weather isn’t nice, turn on your HVAC’s fan. The air will circulate over the filter and remove particulates.
- Install carbon monoxide detectors.
- Perform regular maintenance on your HVAC system – the better it functions, the better it filters your air.
- Radon levels in AZ are generally low, but there are some hot spots including the Cardinal Avenue area of Tucson.
- Change your air filter monthly, and twice monthly if you own multiple pets.
- Use a good quality filter, one that has a MERV rating between 8 and 13.
- Use either stand-alone filtration units or ones integrated with your HVAC.
- Maintain humidity at 30-50%, which is just enough to not encourage mold but to keep down the dust.
- Reduce the amount of pollutants you bring into your home. If you have any new construction, furniture, mattresses, paint, etc., open up your windows or let your HVAC fan run until the smell is gone as much as reasonably possible.
- Store paint, chemicals, and cleaning supplies securely.
- Inspect fuel burning appliances regularly for leaks. If you ever smell natural gas (that sulfur egg smell) contact your gas company. They’ll come out to inspect and make recommendations.
Solutions offered by ChoiceAir include:

*These two solutions are ideal for eliminating mold, VOCs, pollen, viruses, bacteria, and smoke. The equipment we use is always peer tested and recommended.
What is sick building syndrome?
Sick building syndrome occurs primarily in commercial buildings with substandard HVAC systems and a lack of air quality maintenance (e.g., use of poor quality filters, failure to routinely change air filters, elimination of mold, etc.). Occupants will experience similar symptoms while inside a building, and those symptoms disappear once outside the building.
If you own a commercial property and would like to evaluate the quality of your indoor air, please <contact us>.

Energy Efficiency
What is SEER?
Think of your Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) as “miles per gallon.” It’s how much energy it takes to run your unit.
As of January 1, 2023, the minimum SEER in our region is 15. The highest SEER rating for an HVAC unit is 20. The highest SEER rating for a mini split is 26. The higher the SEER, the lower your utility bill.
Your SEER rating drops 1 point every 10 years. If you use mismatched equipment, the SEER rating is considered unknown (e.g., if you have a furnace from the 80s and a new AC unit, there is no given SEER). The only way to know your SEER is to use a professional who can provide an AHRI certificate. This confirms the rating for your compatible furnace, ac unit, and evaporative coil.
If you’re thinking about replacing your HVAC unit and wondering what SEER rating to go with, visit hvacoptcost.com. You can input the equipment model you currently have, its SEER rating, the model(s) you’re considering, and your zip code. It will present you with comparisons of the different models and their pricing.
